When Oviyam is used with dcm4chee archive, using the inbuilt beans for security (user login), query of patient lists and retrieving studies & series' would be more efficient and faster.

The existing DICOM methods would continue to be used when used with a other DICOM servers.

Authentication and auditing the login can be controlled in the web.xml file with J2EE declarative security. Look at the web.xml for dcm4chee-web, and dcm4chee-wado for examples. Then take a look at dcm4chee/server/default/conf/login-config.xml to see the application-policy.
